HomesteadĀ is a city withinĀ Miami-Dade CountyĀ in theĀ U.S.Ā state ofĀ Florida, betweenĀ Biscayne National ParkĀ to the east andĀ Everglades National ParkĀ to the west. Homestead is primarily aĀ MiamiĀ suburb and a major agricultural area. It is a principal city of theĀ Miami metropolitan areaĀ ofĀ South Florida, which was home to an estimated 6,012,331 people at the 2015 census. It is located approximately 26 miles (42Ā km) southwest of Miami, and 25 miles (40Ā km) northwest ofĀ Key Largo. The population was 80,737 as of theĀ 2020 census.
The city of Homestead is located near the southern terminus of theĀ Homestead Extension of Florida’s TurnpikeĀ where it ends at its junction withĀ U.S. 1. Homestead is immediately north and east ofĀ Florida City, and these two cities comprise the greater HomesteadāFlorida City area. Some of the notable unincorporated communities in the area areĀ Redland,Ā Leisure City,Ā Naranja, andĀ Princeton.
